Wunderline – Province of Groningen
Travelling fast and comfortably by train between the cities of Groningen and Bremen: that is what it’s all about with the Wunderline project. Shorter travelling time and more comfort will definitely attract more travellers. Not only the passengers themselves, but also the touristic, social, cultural and economic sectors of both Germany as well as the Netherlands shall benefit from these improvements.
In order to create a sustainable and innovative connection, several studies have been conducted. The aim is to realise the most optimal railway connection between the cities of Groningen and Bremen.
CEF Transport | Brussels contributes an extra 12.7 million euros to the Wunderline
In November 2019, the Wunderline project has been selected to receive a financial contribution of € 12.7 million CEF Transport funding from the European Commission. The preparation of the CEF Transport application, by The Province of Groningen and Land Niedersachsen, has been supported by Hezelburcht. Our specialists are proud to have contributed to this success.
The railway upgrade will allow for higher block compaction, and for trains to reach speeds of 130 KM per hour. Besides, extra noise protection and safety measures are included in the project.
Previous grant and financial support
The previous study phase of the Wunderline project was also granted an amount of € 8.3 million from the CEF Transport program, in 2015. The specialists of Hezelburcht took care of the grant application and project management.
