Sencilia B.V. (MKB Call Health~Holland)

Intravenous infusions (infusions directly into the bloodstream, IV for short) are widely used in hospitals, but the rate at which the fluid flows through the infusion is difficult to measure accurately. As a result, unpredictable variations in flow rate occur in 60% of IV infusions, with a risk of under- or overdose. This is a serious problem, especially for vulnerable patients in neonatal and paediatric intensive care units. Sencilia B.V. and experts from the University of Groningen are collaborating on developing a sensor technology that can measure IV flow more reliably. This innovative project has received financial support from the Health~Holland SME R&D grant programme.

Rely-V: a pioneering innovation project to make intravenous infusions more reliable

In Rely-V, Sencilia is developing an IV monitoring device that measures the flow rate in infusion in real-time and alerts doctors immediately in case of irregularities. In this project, Sencilia is working with a professor in nanofabrication and a professor in mechatronics, both from the University of Groningen, to realise a functioning prototype ready for clinical use. To validate the prototype in practice, Sencilia works with experts from Erasmus MC.

Grant funding from Health~Holland’s SME Call

The Rely-V project aligns perfectly with the goals of the Dutch national framework Knowledge- and Innovation Agenda Health & Care 2024-2027. Health~Holland launches annual SME Calls to engage SMEs within the missions of the sector Life Sciences & Health in the Netherlands. Cooperation between companies and research institutes is necessary to be eligible. This made the collaboration project Rely-V a perfect fit for funding from the Health~Holland SME Call. Colleague Marlieke van Kesteren notified Sencilia of this grant opportunity and helped submitting a competitive proposal on time.

Long-term cooperation partner

Sencilia and Hezelburcht have been working together for years to exploit various grant opportunities for Sencilia’s impactful projects, including the WBSO for R&D projects. This latest success, the award of the Health~Holland SME R&D call, is a crowning achievement of our cooperation.
