The Interreg 2 Seas project DOC2C’s aims to remove dissolved organic carbon (DOC) more effectively from surface water, with the aim to improve drinking water production. Due to climate change, greater differences occur in wet and dry periods. This has a major impact on the concentration of organic (micro) contaminants present in the surface water sources used for drinking water production. As a result, the production of drinking water, which has to meet high quality standards, is becoming increasingly difficult. Moreover, existing technologies struggle to meet the current challenges.

The consortium jointly researches and develops innovative techniques to remove DOC from water. It develops a joint R&D agenda, shares its knowledge and experience, and invites SMEs to test their innovative developments. The aim is to realise the transition towards high quality purification technology both faster and more cost-effective. Ultimately, this will lead to a reduction in social costs and ensure the availability of sustainable, safe drinking water.
