Nereda | Innowater-KRW-WBSO
In Europe, most treatment plants are based on activated sludge systems. A major problem is the large area required for the settling of this sludge. In cooperation with STOWA and participating water authorities Royal HaskoningDHV developed the Nereda® aerobic granular sludge technology for wastewater treatment.
The new technology causes the sludge to form grains. Therefore, it precipitates much faster. Nereda® leads to a reduction in both energy and chemical consumption. Moreover, the necessary surface area is substantially smaller than in traditional activated sludge systems. On balance, Nereda® technology leads to a significant improvement of the ecological footprint of wastewater treatment.
Nereda® is currently employed at various locations in the Netherlands. The technology is also marketed internationally.
