Overview of the CEF Transport 2024 call

The CEF Transport 2024 call for proposals is currently open for applications, with a submission deadline of 21 January 2025. With a total budget of € 2.5 billion, this call aims to support projects that build, expand, and modernize transportation infrastructure across the European Union and in CEF-associated countries, including Ukraine and Moldova.

TEN-T Policy Objectives: Advancing Europe’s Transport Connectivity

The Trans-European Networks for Transport (TEN-T) policy outlines essential goals for developing a more connected and accessible transport network across Europe. The primary objectives include:

  • Completion of the Core Network by 2030: Establishing nine multimodal Core Network Corridors that will form the backbone of EU transport routes.
  • Extended Core Network Completion by 2040: Expanding the core network to enhance connectivity between more regions and boost economic integration.
  • Comprehensive Network Completion by 2050: Creating a fully accessible and integrated network that links all European regions, enabling efficient movement of goods and people across the continent.

Key Focus Areas for CEF Transport Funding

CEF Transport will prioritize projects in sectors including:

  • Railways
  • Inland waterways (IWWs)
  • Maritime and inland ports
  • Road safety
  • Multimodal freight terminals
  • Multimodal passenger hubs
  • Smart and interoperable applications for transport
  • Safe and secure mobility
  • Infrastructure resilience

A key aspect of the revised TEN-T regulation is its emphasis on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), designed to improve accessibility and mobility in urban areas and commuting zones. SUMPs will also be essential for advancing the EU Cities Mission’s goal of climate-neutral, smart cities by 2050.
