New cut-off date for the current CEF AFIF call
Several changes have been made to the currently open AFIF call under the CEF Transport programme. Companies and public authorities can apply for grants through the scheme for projects that specifically contribute to better European infrastructure and are ready for market. Since 29 February 2024, you can submit your application. The call has three different deadlines.
Changes within CEF AFIF
On 7 March 2025, several changes were made within the CEF AFIF call:
- The final deadline has been further postponed. The new third deadline is 4 March 2026;
- The eligibility criteria for sea and inland vessels using hydrogen refuelling stations and ammonia or methanol installations have been clarified;
- The extension principle for projects funded through unit contributions has been adjusted.
CEF AFIF cut-off dates
The three deadlines for the CEF AFIF call are now as follows:
- First cut-off date: 24 September 2024
- Second cut-off date: 11 June 2025
- Third cut-off date: 4 March 2026
Which projects are eligible to apply for CEF AFIF?
Within the current CEF AFIF call, projects focused on alternative fuels for road, sea, inland waterways, and air transport are eligible for funding. In addition to supporting high-power electric charging stations and hydrogen refuelling stations, the following projects are also eligible for support:
- Megawatt charging stations for heavy-duty vehicles
- Provision of electricity and hydrogen at airports
- Electricity supply and ammonia and methanol bunkering facilities at ports
These specifically concern mature investment projects that are ready for market implementation and have financial approval from an implementing partner or a public/private financial institution based in the EU.
