Sharing of knowledge and matchmaking at FENS Forum of Neuroscience
European funding programmes are more and more aimed at collaborations between the public and private sector. The goal is to bring scientific findings to the public and enhance and promote health. On behalf of Hezelburcht, my colleague Esther van Straten and I will be present at the FENS to discuss innovative ideas and to identify the funding opportunities.
Neuroscience funding expertise
I performed my PhD research at the Donders Institute and Radboud University Medical Centre in the Netherlands. My project focused on the influence of nutrition on brain development and degeneration in preclinical models. I have joined Hezelburcht life sciences as a consultant in 2015. Since then, I have been involved in national and European grant proposals for collaborative projects with life sciences themes. With my background I have a special interest in neuroscience related topics. Hence, I am happy to attend the largest European event in neurosciences this weekend.
Largest meeting of European neuroscientists
Starting from Saturday July 7, the FENS Forum of Neuroscience will take place in Berlin. This biannual event is the largest European conference in the field of neurosciences and attracts over 6,000 participants from academia and industry.
The topics that are addressed at the conference cover all fields in neurosciences: from cognition and behaviour, computational neuroscience and neural development to the development of new methods and technologies. In addition to the scientific sessions, FENS also offers opportunities to come into contact with potential partners at the exhibition, satellite events and special interest events. On Monday July 9 for example, the Wellcome Trust will host an event on ‘International Partnerships in Neuroscience’. This session provides information on funding opportunities for collaborations with partners from the United Kingdom.
Funding opportunities and matchmaking at FENS
FENS offers the perfect environment to initiate new ideas and partnerships. The international and intersectoral character of the event contribute to the start of new collaborations that fit perfectly in international funding programmes such as Horizon 2020, Eurostars and Interreg.
