MSCA COFUND 2025 call for proposals
The MSCA COFUND program funds various research programmes to encourage high-quality fellowships and doctoral programs. It supports international, inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary research training. It can be applied to a Doctoral programme (for PhD students) or a Fellowship programme (for post docs). The new MSCA COFUND application period is open from 23 January 2025 to 24 June 2025. For this call, a total budget of € 101 million is available.
What projects are eligible for funding?
Within MSCA COFUND, two types of programmes are eligible for funding:
- Doctoral programmes: a programme for research training for doctoral candidates to develop and broaden skills and competences. This will lead to the award of a doctoral degree.
- Postdoctoral programmes (fellowships): a programme for individual research training and career development fellowships for postdoctoral researchers.
A COFUND project should last for not more than five years and at least 3 researchers are part of the project. The MSCA COFUND programme covers costs per recruited researcher for the duration of the project. This costs can contain the salary, mobility costs, costs related to training, research expenses, transfer of knowledge and networking activities, costs of managing the action and indirect costs.
Next call for proposals MSCA COFUND 2025
The new call for proposals will open on 23 January 2025 and closes on 24 June 2025. This call has a total budget available of more than € 101 million. One application can receive a maximum of € 10 million.
Who can apply?
Organisations in an EU Member State or a associated country to Horizon Europe can apply. Organisation for example are: government entities, regional authorities, funding agencies, universities, research organisation and enterprises.
Results of MSCA COFUND in 2024
The MSCA COFUND grant programme was as popular in 2024, as it was the year before. The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 81 proposals in 2024, including 40 for the doctoral program and 41 for the postdoctoral program. About 30 projects of these can be funded with up to 1,000 researchers. The budget for these projects is € 104.8 million.
Seal of excellence
As more proposals have been submitted than can be funded, Seal of Excellence certificates are awarded. When proposals are approved but do not receive funding, they are awarded a certificate recognising the quality of the proposal. Organisations are thereby helped to obtain funding elsewhere.
