EIC Accelerator open for applications until 19 October
The European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator is focused on highly innovative SMEs. This grant provides support to scale up and bring a new product, process or service to the international market. The final deadline of 2023 for submitting full proposals was originally due on 4 October, but this has been changed to 19 October 2023. The deadline concerns phase 2 of the application process. This postponement is to provide additional time for applicants to complete full proposals.
Who is eligible for funding?
Start-ups, spin-outs, SMEs and individuals from EU member states or third countries who want to start a start-up/SME and have ambition to scale it up are eligible for funding. Within the EIC, three programmes are available:
- EIC Pathfinder
- EIC Transition
- EIC Accelerator
EIC Accelerator is split into two calls:
- EIC Accelerator Open
- EIC Accelerator Challenges

Apply for EIC Accelerator in 2023
In total, there are four deadlines, three of which have already closed. The final deadline in 2023 was originally supposed to be 4 October. It has been moved up to 19 October 2023 to give applicants extra time to submit their full applications. A total budget over €1 billion is available for EIC Accelerator. This budget is divided between the two programmes:
- Open: € 613 million
- Challenges: € 524 million
The application process consists of 2 phases. In phase 1, you submit a short application. If your short application is approved, you will enter phase 2: here you submit the full proposal. In 2023, you can only submit your full proposal for phase 2 of the final opening (by 19 October).
