CYSSDE Open Call for innovative cybersecurity projects

A new European grant scheme has been announced: CYSSDE (CyberSecurity Deployment Preparedness Support, Capacity, and Capabilities). European companies and organisations implementing innovative projects in cybersecurity now have a unique opportunity to benefit from this grant. Specifically, projects focused on penetration testing and vulnerability assessments are eligible for funding. This new grant is part of the EU-funded Digital Europe Programme, which aims to strengthen the resilience of essential services and high-tech SMEs. Applications can be submitted from 7 January 2025 to 7 April 2025.

What is the CYSSDE Open Call?

The CYSSDE Open Call supports projects aimed at:

  • Conducting penetration tests and identifying vulnerabilities in networks, applications, and systems;
  • Developing new tools, methodologies, and solutions to enhance cybersecurity;
  • Meeting European directives such as NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Who is eligible for CYSSDE funding?

Various European companies and organisations can benefit from this new scheme, including:

  • SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises and startups), medium and large companies;
  • Research institutes and public organisations;
  • Organisations active in critical sectors such as energy, transport, healthcare, or high-tech applications like AI, IoT, and fintech.

At least 25% of the grant budget is reserved for SME organisations. Participation as a consortium (with a maximum of two parties) is also permitted.

CYSSDE Grant Contribution

The maximum grant amount available is € 200,000, with a 50% co-financing requirement. This means that the total project budget must be at least € 400,000. Applications for the second Open Call (OC2) can be submitted from 7 January to 7 April 2025.

Which activities are eligible?

The grant supports a wide range of activities, including:

  • Conducting at least 10 penetration tests or vulnerability assessments;
  • Developing new cybersecurity tools and technologies;
  • Training and capacity building in cybersecurity;
  • Research into the secure integration of multiple login systems or data exchange mechanisms;
  • Setting up and managing testing environments for critical infrastructure.

Evaluation of applications

When applying, it will be assessed based on three criteria:

  • Excellence: The innovation and technical quality of the project;
  • Impact: The contribution to cybersecurity resilience and scalability;
  • Implementation: Feasibility and efficient use of resources.

During the project, you are required to conduct at least 10 penetration tests and present a clear plan detailing how the project’s objectives will be achieved. Examples of successful projects include solutions for securing IoT systems, testing medical devices, or enhancing cybersecurity in the energy sector.

Why participate in CYSSDE?

The CYSSDE Open Call offers not only financial support but also mentoring and access to a network of European experts. This programme is an exceptional opportunity for companies and organisations to strengthen their cybersecurity efforts, drive innovation, and comply with the increasing demands of European regulations.
