Clean Industrial Deal boosts Innovation Fund budget substantially
In 2025, the Clean Industrial Deal was launched by the European Commission (EC) with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of European industry and accelerating the transition to a sustainable, carbon-neutral economy. As part of this initiative, an Industrial Decarbonisation Bank has been established with an impressive € 100 billion budget to finance more innovative projects through Innovation Fund grant.
Clean Industrial Deal
In February 2025, the European Commission introduced the Clean Industrial Deal (CID), outlining a series of measures aimed at ensuring affordable energy and promoting a low-carbon economy. The initiative supports the cleantech industry and various energy-intensive sectors by reducing energy costs, creating high-quality jobs, and providing favourable conditions for businesses. The CID also places strong emphasis on circularity by encouraging the reuse of raw materials and extending their lifecycle.
Increased Budget for Innovation Fund grant
The Innovation Fund enables various businesses, research institutions, and public bodies to invest in new low-carbon technologies across Europe. Due to consistently high interest in the Fund, many strong and promising projects have previously been turned down. To address this, € 100 billion has now been allocated through the CID, allowing for broader financial support of innovative projects. In addition, eligibility criteria and the overall application process are being simplified to encourage participation and ensure a faster rollout of projects.
