088 495 20 00Are you a growing and innovative European startup in the healthcare sector? If so, you could be eligible for the Transformative Health Instrument (THI) grant. This funding scheme is supported by EIT Health and focuses on startups developing adaptable innovations that contribute to the delivery of more personalised, sustainable, and effective healthcare. The initiative aims not only to advance healthcare but also to enhance the long-term sustainability of the European health system. Applications can be submitted from 7 November 2024 till 7 January 2025.
For whom is THI grant?
Transformative Health Instrument grant is for European startups. As a startup, you must be working on solutions for which an equity funding round has been successfully completed in 2023 and 2024. The startup must be based in one of the Member States (MS): their outermost regions, the Overseas Countries and Territories linked to the Member States or in countries associated with Horizon Europe as well as certain low- and middle-income countries
THI funding
The subsidy budget for the 2025 funding round is € 6 million. Each project will receive a minimum of € 400,000 and a maximum of € 500,000 in funding up to 2025. It is also possible to secure additional funding for research and development projects from the THI grant for the period 2026-2028. Furthermore, a minimum of 30% co-financing from the organisation is required. THI imposes this requirement to accelerate the growth of the organisation and its capital.
Terms and conditions for THI grant
Innovation projects must meet a specified Innovation Maturity Level (IML). At the time of application, the project must fall within one of the following categories:
- IML ≥ 5 for Biotech (Safety/Toxicology study stage)
- IML ≥ 7 for Biomarker Diagnostics (Clinical validation)
- IML ≥ 6 for MedTech (Initial clinical Proof of Concept)
- IML ≥ 7 for Digital (Market validation)
Additionally, each company must contribute to the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
