Goal
Stimulating cross-border collaborative projects for a stronger and sustainable Europe
The INTERREG programmes stimulate innovative and sustainable cooperation projects which focus on creating a stronger Europe. Examples of such projects include creating a better environment, inspiring innovation and reducing economic differences between regions and member states. The programmes encourage parties to cooperate across borders in order to address shared opportunities and challenges.
The pillars of INTERREG
The programmes offers opportunities for governments (national, regional and municipalities), NGOs (non-governmental organisations), research institutions and private companies. The total budget for 2014-2020 is € 2.2 billion. The budget is being divided across three pillars:
- Cross-border (INTERREG A programmes)
- Transnational (INTERREG B programmes)
- Interregional cooperation (INTERREG EUROPE and URBACT).
Each programme has its own investment priorities based on the characteristics and challenges of the programme area. Common priorities are innovation, moving towards a low-carbon economy, resource efficiency and sustainable transport. Interested in learning more about the programmes?
