EU Missions – Horizon Europe
EU Missions are concrete missions of the European Commission (EC) aimed at major social challenges. The EC has formulated five EU Missions with ambitious goals, which must deliver concrete results by 2030. The five EU Missions are Mission Climate, Mission Cancer, Mission Ocean, Mission Cities, and Mission Soil. These EU Missions are important for the EU and that is why the EC is publishing grant calls for innovative project proposals. The EU Missions and its budgets are part of Horizon Europe.
What are the EU Missions?
The major social challenges are mainly focused on sustainability and the environment: climate adaptation, restoring the oceans, climate-neutral urban areas, and improving the soil in Europe. The other EU Mission is Cancer, which focuses on solutions against cancer and improving the lives of people with cancer. The five EU Missions as formulated by the EC are:
- Mission Climate – Climate adaptation: at least 150 EU regions and communities must be climate resilient by 2030.
- Mission Cancer – Partnering with the European Cancer Control Plan to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through prevention, cures, and solutions to live longer, better lives.
- Mission Ocean – Restoring oceans and waters by 2030.
- Mission Cities – 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030.
- Mission Soil – A Soil Deal for Europe: 100 testing grounds and lighthouses to lead the transition to healthy soil by 2030.
